I'm old n Fat and I need some info re Bicycling?
I am 48 yrs old and at 5'11" i weigh aprox 330 lbs. I am having probs with my bllod sugar, and my Dr says my liver is fat. I am at a loss to be happy with walking, however I recently purchased a Bicycle and I find I do enjoy riding it around the neighborhood (riminds me of when I was a kid).
I also used to run in the military and in a group I enjoyed it, but by myself I find it boring. How do you relate biking on fairly leval ground to walking or running? If I can ride a 2 to 3 mile circut (an area I have chosen to ride) would it be best to run it once or twice a day? Do I need a pedometer or speedometer or some kind of counter to measure he ammount of cals I am burning? My diet is ok, and I have seen changes in my blood sugar (for the better) when I have activity. any advice is helpful.
thanx and GB al 4 now B
Boredom will kill an exercise program quicker than anything.
Cycling can be very effective towards cardiovascular health and weight loss. Bear in mind that with lower intensity exercise like casual cycling or walking, you have to put a LOT more time into it than if you were to run or ride hard.
Yes, aerobic exercise has beneficial effects on blood sugar as well.
There is no reason you can't do both cycling and running. I combine the two all the time training for triathlons. (I'm several years older than you BTW).
Trying to calculate calories burned is dicey at best. There are too many factors to consider.
