Goose feathers
Versatility of feathers can be seen from its usage for adorning purposes to designing purposes and much more. Like other feathers goose feathers have their own qualities and have become hottest fad for decorating centerpieces, party venues or homes etc. Apart from decorating they are used for stuffing beddings, pillows as pillows containing white goose feathers give a proper alignment to your body and gives greater support which is beneficial in good night sleep. These goose feathers make very beautiful centerpieces which can be used for party decoration and if kept in sleek vases looks very pretty.
These feathers make very beautiful Christmas trees. Thus creating a goose feather tree is a simple process and requires wrapping it around wires and depending on ones need these trees can be made up to two to six feet tall. The artificial goose feather trees were originated in Germany more than 120 years ago because at that time people were more concerned about deforestation. But with time these trees have become latest trends and have simply transformed in holiday decoration.
Apart from goose feathers being used in decorations, ornaments they can be also used for making feather pens which were being used in ancient times and these days are used in calligraphy. They can be used with ink and for calligraphy by following simple steps.
- Select the right goose feather having thick and long stem.
- The next step is to sharpen the tip and this process is to be repeated when it wears out. As calligraphers needs sharpen tips for their work.
- With sharpening hardening is also required. The harder and stiff the feather will be it becomes better. To harden the tip either it can be dipped in hot blazing sand or another way of doing it is holding it above the light flame so that it becomes harden but be careful that it should not be burnt.
- Remember to have many quills so that one wears out you must have another available. Also remember the life of quills can be extended by plucking and sharpening.
- Now finally dip the feather into ink and take care you don’t get too much or too less ink in the tip as little ink will fade away quickly and too much will leave blobs on paper. In case there is too much ink in the tip keep a piece of paper or cloth to wipe of glut ink.
- Also use right ink for calligraphy which is especially for calligraphic purposes and don’t use Indian or printer ink as it won’t work and won’t give desired results.
- Choice of right kind of paper is also necessary for calligraphy as you can use either smooth paper or matte paper which will help in giving nicer finish to it.
Goose feathers can be got from any art or craft shop or can be got from bulk suppliers of feathers. Some event management companies and fashion designers buy feathers in bulk from suppliers and use them for decoration and other purposes.
